Sarah Pollack

For this piece, my “model” was another student in the class. In five minutes, I quickly sketched him using a stick and India Ink. I was hesitant about this technique at first and couldn’t quite get used to the idea of a gestural drawing. It took me a few tries to get into the technique, but once I did, I liked this strange way of making art. The stick, with an uneven point, didn’t allow for any exactness. I related the piece to my area of concentration, design, with the hearts and swirls in the background. Since I had previously used black and red to symbolize negativity, here, I used the hearts to symbolize love throughout the piece. The theme of love ties in to the model because he is a caring person and I wanted to portray that.
